Dr. Garrett is a native of Oklahoma City and has lived most of his life in Tulsa where he attended Tulsa Memorial High School. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1978 with a degree in microbiology. He then attended graduate school at the University of Oklahoma in the biochemistry department, working as a research assistant in neurochemistry.
He attended the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, in Oklahoma City, where he completed his medical degree in 1984. He then completed an internship in internal medicine at the University of Oklahoma – Tulsa Medical College in 1985. He completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in 1988. He was awarded the outstanding resident award, voted by his peers, in 1988. He then served a two year vitreoretinal fellowship in Houston which he completed in 1990.
Dr. Garrett began his private practice in 1990 in Tulsa specializing in Ophthalmology with subspecialty interest in vitreoretinal surgery. He provides care to patients for general ophthalmological problems including cataracts and glaucoma and vitreoretinal diseases including retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, and age-related macular degeneration. Dr. Garrett is Board Certified through the American Board of Ophthalmology.
